Social Studies
Grade 4: Almost everyone has completed their research and is working on their non-fiction book. We talked today about how to write a topic sentence. Keep it simple. Some examples we brainstormed:

  • There are many different physical features in Ancient Egypt.
  • The daily life in Ancient China was different than daily life in Canada.
  • The people of Ancient Greece worshiped many different gods and goddesses

Your goal is to complete 1-2 subtopics per double period. If you are falling behind, you are welcome to stay after school this week on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.

Grade 5: Today we reviewed the information in your textbook about early contact between the First Nations peoples and Europeans. You just need to write down the main idea of each benefit and challenge on your brochure and include one non-fiction feature per panel. For tomorrow you should have your brochure set up and at least two panels complete.

Math
Today we looked at reflections and rotations. You can tell if a shape has been reflected if it is flipped and congruent. If you were to cut out the shape and would fit exactly on top. We classified rotations using our knowledge of fractions of a circle.

1/4 turn                                       1/2 turn                                 3/4 turn

1 whole turn

Translate or reflect dots and then draw the rest of the shape. Transformation and coordinate quiz on Wednesday. Please study your booklet.

Family Life
Today we looked at how a baby grows from a tiny cell in a matter of nine months. How does the growing baby receive his or her nutrients? Oxygen? How does it get rid of water products? We also discussed a little bit about how twins develop.

New vocabulary today:
placenta, umbilical cord, amniotic sac, amniotic fluid, identical and fraternal twins
