Today we looked at the structure of the municipal government and how decisions are made. We looked at many non-fiction text features:
- headings
- bold words
- glossary
- tables
- photographs
- captions
- flow charts
- tree diagram
All on three pages of the Many Gifts textbook. We discussed the advantages of organizing information in the using the different text forms.
In computers, we used the tree diagram on page 21 as a guide to create a tree diagram of the structure of the Municipality of London.
Specifics you need to find out:
Mayor of London, Councillor for your ward, fire chief, police chief, city manager are required for your tree. Other names in charge of other departments may be included.
Look on the City of London website for answers.
You may access Mindomo on the Desire to Learn icon on the Board website. You use your e-mail address (students number@365.ldcsb.on.ca) and your password is the same password you use at school.
Add pictures of the important people in your tree diagram or pictures that show what the responsibilities of the department. The more you play with a program, the savvy you become with it!
Math
Today we began with subtracting using mental math strategies. Our first strategy involved removing tens first.
For example:
67 - 35
67 - 30 = 37
37 - 5 = 32
The remainder of our lesson focused on equivalent decimals. Very tricky for most. Using a 100 frame and pennies, we should how 0.30 = 0.3 (thirty hundredths = three tenths).
Try the games at this website.
