Drama
Wonderful job presenting "The Long-Haired Boy" to the junior division classes. Everyone enjoyed and learned an important message from the poem.

Math
Everyone completed the math test today. I noticed a few things....
  • It's important to read and understand word problems. Some of you highlight key words which is a good strategy.
  • Make sure you understand what you are trying to find out. What is the meaning of your answer?
  • Make sure you understand the meaning of numbers in a word problem.
The jellybean problem was a challenge for most grade fives.

A candy company sells its 40 flavours of jellybeans in boxes with 10 of each flavour. Each day they put 80 000 jelly beans in boxes. How many boxes are filled each day? Hint: Use two multiplication sentences and/or pictures to solve the problem. Explain your thinking.

What do the 40, 10 and 80 000 mean?

Literacy
Remember to use modeled answers as guides. Giving proof from the medium and explaining your inference, was challenging for many students. We still need more practice!

Computers
Please complete your tree diagram on the organization of local government using Mindomo on Desire to Learn. No need to write the description for each department, a picture is good enough.

Science
Vocabulary to know for test: habitat, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, consumer, producer, photosynthesis, decomposer, structural adaptations, behavioral adaptations, food chain

Questions for thought...
What does the habitat have to provide a living thing?
What are some examples of food chains in a meadow?
What is the role of decomposers in a food chain?
What would happen in a food chain if.... decomposers disappeared? herbivores disappeared? plants disappeared? carnivores disappeared? amount of sunlight decreased?

How do animals and plants adapt to their environments? Give examples.
