Bell Work
Each day you start with a different question related to one of the the five strands in math: numeration, patterning and algebra, geometry, data management and probability or measurement. Make sure you correct your mistakes each day and ask for help at recesses if you don't understand. Remember, part of SELF REGULATION is asking questions when you are unsure.

Reading Log
Today you received your reading log.... EXCITING! It is your responsibility each day to keep track of the number of minutes you read at school and at home both on the calendar and on the graph. Read over your contract with a parent and don't forget to get it signed. Look over the rubric. This will be part of your learning skills mark. HAPPY READING!

Literacy
Today we talked about our first before reading strategy, SETTING A PURPOSE. Share with your parents the importance of knowing why you are reading before reading. We also talked about the narrative text form. What are the five characteristics of a narrative? Tomorrow we will go back to the story "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street" and list examples of each characteristic. Read over the book again using this link: http://staff.kcsd.org/~kfigueroa/Reading/Lesson_17_files/lesson17.pdf

Math
Grade 4s had some difficulty with the shape patterns with multiple attributes. We did one question together on the board. You should be able to write a letter pattern that corresponds to your shape pattern, describe how each attribute changes, write the pattern rule and extend shape patterns. For homework, please create your own shape pattern using the criteria on the label in your notebook. Correct your homework from page 5 in the textbook.

Library
Monday is library day. It will also be the day for you to have a good block of time for silent reading. Today you were magnificent in the library. Most students were totally engaged in your books. BRAVO!

Reminder
Please show your parents the permission form for the trips this fall. Our first trip to the Sifton Bog  is next week.
There are still some outstanding information forms for the office. It is important that the school have the necessary forms completed for emergency situations and so that you are able to participate in a variety of activities during school day.
