Literacy
Today you were introduced to three literary devices (techniques that authors use when they write). The first was personification.

Next were puns.

Example:

The last was stereotype.

Example: You're so tall, you must be a basketball player.
Little girls play with dolls and little boys play with trucks.

Do you remember the example of each from The Garage Sale Mystery?

Think of your own example of each for tomorrow. Come to class prepared to write then share.

Math
Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 is a snap. Look at the patterns to answer the questions, grade 4. Grade 5 is a little trickier. Round the number to the nearest 10 or 100, but then take away the amount you added to get to 10 or 100.

Example:
79 x 6
80 x 6 = 480 (add one to each group of 79 to make 80)
480 - 6 = 474 (subtract the total amount you added on)

Growth Mindset
Today we talked about how your brain is like a muscle. Like a muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. The more you practice something, the easier it will be to do.

Listen to the story Your Fantastic Elastic Brain. It's the only link I could find to the book. Be prepared to write down the answer to this question:
How is your brain elastic?

Science
If you have not researched the adaptations of your plant and animal, make sure you have the information you need for Thursday. We have two periods on the computers.

Raz Kids
I have created accounts for everyone. If you have access to a microphone on your device at home (I-Pad or computer) send me a sample of you reading a couple of pages in a book. I love listening to you read!
