Using the strategy or formula to find the sum of numbers was VERY DIFFICULTY for most students on the test. YOU JUST NEED TO LEARN THE STRATEGY.
Example:
Write the first 10 numbers in this pattern. Start at 4 and increase by 5 each time.
Most of you got the 10 numbers correct.
4, 9, 14, 19, 24, 29, 34, 39, 44, 49
Find the sum of the pairs (first and last, second and second last, third and third last, fourth and fourth last, fifth and fifth last)
4 + 49 = 53
9 + 44 = 53
14+ 39 = 53
19 + 34 = 53
24 + 29 = 53
The total would be 53 x 5 = 265
Try this one:
