Literacy
Most of you finished your autobiography poems. I'll give you feedback on Monday to make some revisions. Once revisions are completed, on to editing, then finally publishing!

Family Life
Today we read the story "Mr. Kostas' Store". Share with a parent what happened in the story. How did Paul's father show love? How do you ask for forgiveness? What word did we discuss that describes God's love?
Please share the information in your duotang with your parents and complete the reflection and dialogue for tomorrow.

Update: Mrs. SQ informed us that a boy or group of boys (grades 4 to 8) made a poor decision today in the boys' bathroom.  Please share what happened with your parent. If you are involved in anyway, think about Paul in the story above. What do you need to do to make it right?

Math
Grade 4: Using a t-chart is an excellent problem solving strategy. The hardest part of using the strategy is knowing what to label the headings of the t-chart. Make sure your homework is complete. Use a ruler to construct t-charts and skip lines between questions.

Grade 5: Good job sharing your solutions to problems in the Skills Bank. The first half of the Skills Bank should be done.

Mental Math
Today we began Number Talks. The purpose of number talks is to improve your mental math by giving you simple and quick strategies to add, subtract and multiply in your head. The first addition strategy we learned today is making tens. We call ten a magic number because it's easy to add onto to a multiple of ten.

Example:

58 + 7 = 58 + 2 + 5 = 60 + 5 = 65

We took two away from the 7 to make a magic ten of 60. 5 was left over so we added that onto the 60.

Here's some more to practice tonight...

16 + 8
79 + 9
33 + 8

Science
Most of you have organized your information about the Sifton Bog on Mindomo into the four wetlands, bog, pond, swamp, marsh. Within those wetlands describe and list the plants and animals.

Reminder:
  • Tomorrow is our "Run with the Sharks" meet at Springbank Park. Make sure you bring plenty of WATER (no sugary drinks), healthy snacks, shorts, t-shirt, hat, and SOMETHING TO SIT ON. No electronic devices are allowed, but feel free to bring something to pass the time.
  • Reading Logs due tomorrow.
